Phase 1: I-5 to Corliss Avenue

Status: Construction

Construction of Phase 1 is taking place concurrently with the 145th Street and I-5 Interchange project. Work began April 1, 2024.

Phase 1 design is focused on improving intersection safety and operations to reduce delays in traffic and create better access for pedestrians moving along the corridor and accessing the future light rail station at 148th Street and I-5. The project will reflect the Preferred Design Concept approved by the Shoreline City Council on April 11, 2016, as well as feedback from the community.

Design elements include:

• 13-foot sidewalk east of 1st Avenue and 8-foot sidewalk from 1st Avenue to Corliss Avenue.
• Signalized intersection improvements, additional left turn lanes, and signal timing adjustments.
• Pedestrian signal at Corliss Avenue.
• Improved sidewalks and crosswalks, pedestrian countdown signals, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible curb ramps.

Tree Impacts

This project will have significant tree impacts. We are balancing these impacts with our need to address the biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in Shoreline – transportation. This project helps further our goal of creating dense, walkable communities around transit. Future design of 145th Street near 1st Avenue, looking west

145th Street future design near 1st Avenue will have a 5-foot amenity zone and a 13-foot-wide sidewalk on the north side of the street, a 5-foot-wide sidewalk on the southside of the street. West of 1st Avenue, the north side of 145th Street will have an 8-foot sidewalk and a 5-foot landscape strip. The south side of 145th Street will maintain a 5-foot sidewalk. The east and west bound thru lanes will be 12-feet-wide on the outer north and south sides of the street and 11-feet wide inside lanes. There will be a 12-foot-wide turn lane in the center of the street.

The design includes two eastbound and two westbound thru lanes, turn lanes, a landscaped median and upgraded pedestrian lighting.

Phase 2: Corliss Avenue to Wallingford Avenue

Status: Design and Securing Funds

Design for Phase 2 is currently at 60% and will be finalized in 2024. The City anticipates completion of Phase 2 right-of-way acquisition near the middle of 2025.

The project will reflect the Preferred Design Concept approved by the Shoreline City Council in April 2016, as well as feedback from the community.

Design elements include:

• Signalized intersection improvements, additional left turn lanes, and signal timing adjustments.
• Improved sidewalks and crosswalks, pedestrian countdown signals, and ADA accessible curb ramps.
