Shoreline Website Page Policies

A. Privacy Policy and Disclaimer

Any individual accessing, browsing and using the City of Shoreline website accepts without limitation or qualification, the City's website policies, disclaimer and notices (hereafter "Policies"). These terms and conditions apply only to the website areas that are registered under the City of Shoreline. The City of Shoreline maintains the right to modify these Policies without notice. Any modification is effective immediately upon posting the modification on the website policy page unless otherwise stated. Continued use of the website following the posting of any modification signifies acceptance of such modification.

The City of Shoreline operates and maintains its official website as a public service to provide information about City programs, services, projects, issues, events and activities. Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the information provided on the site. However, the City of Shoreline assumes no liability for any inaccuracies the website may contain and does not guarantee that the website will be uninterrupted or error-free. The website pages and online information are provided "As Is" without warranty of any kind

B. Links Policy

1. Links to Outside Websites Provided on the City of Shoreline Website

The City of Shoreline may select links to outside websites that offer helpful resources for users. Once an individual links to another site, the City's policies no longer apply and you become subject to the policies of that site. The City of Shoreline's website is intended specifically to share information about City programs, events and services. Thus, the City of Shoreline website currently links only to governmental agencies, City-sponsored events and City-sponsored groups, including City-sponsored neighborhood associations. The City of Shoreline is not responsible for the content that appears on these outside links and provides these links as a convenience only. Users should be aware that these third party sites and the information found on those sites are not controlled by, provided by or endorsed by the City of Shoreline. Users who access these sites do so of their own free will and at their own risk. The City reserves the right to refuse to post any website links or to delete links posted at any time without notice.

The City specifically does not provide links to:

  • Sites associated with, sponsored by or serving a candidate for elected office
  • Sites supporting, endorsing or seeking to defeat any candidate for elective office, or any ballot proposal.
  • Purely commercial sites with no affiliation to City projects, programs or objectives.
  • Individual personal homepages.
  • Individual religious sites.
  • Sites containing material determined to be obscene, indecent, illegal or libelous.

2. Links by Other Entities to the City of Shoreline's Website

It is not necessary to get advance permission to link to the City of Shoreline website; however, the City reserves the right to rescind linking permission at any time. Entities and individuals linking to the City of Shoreline website may not capture any of the City's website pages within frames, present City of Shoreline content as their own or otherwise misrepresent the City of Shoreline website content. Furthermore, they shall not misinform users about the origin or ownership of the City of Shoreline website content. The City of Shoreline reserves the right to change URLs and sub-page paths at any time without notice; it is the responsibility of linking sites to maintain links. Links to the City site should not in any way suggest that the City of Shoreline has any relationship or affiliation with that organization or that the City endorses, sponsors or recommends the information, products or services of that site.

C. Shoreline Municipal Code Disclaimer

The City of Shoreline website includes an electronic version of the Shoreline Municipal Code provided through an outside link to Municipal Research and Services Center. The online code is not intended to replace the current printed version of the Shoreline Municipal Code. While every attempt is made to keep the online version of the code current, the City Council periodically passes ordinances that supersede or modify the ordinances included in the online version. This site is intended for general reference only and should not be used in the preparation of official legal documents. Anyone using the online version of the Municipal Code is advised to contact the City Clerk's Office at (206) 801-2230 with questions regarding the code.

D. Collection of Personal Information

Statistical information about website visits is collected to help the City of Shoreline track and improve website usefulness. However, the City of Shoreline collects no personal information except where visitors choose to provide that information via emails or online forms. The City of Shoreline does not give, share, sell or transfer any personal information to a third party without consent unless required by the Public Records Act, Chapter 42.56 RCW.

E. ADA Access

The City of Shoreline is committed to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Upon request, the City of Shoreline will make reasonable accommodations to provide individuals who have disabilities access to City information provided on the City's website. Please direct requests for reasonable accommodations to the Webmaster.

F. Copyright Policy

All information and materials provided on this website are the property of the City of Shoreline. The City retains copyright on all text, graphic images and other content found on the website. You may print copies of information and material for your own non-commercial use, provided that you retain the copyright symbol or other such proprietary notice intact on any copyrighted materials you copy. Please include a credit line reading: "credit: City of Shoreline | www.shorelinewa.gov" or "Courtesy of City of Shoreline | www.shorelinewa.gov."

Commercial use of text, City logos, photos and other graphics is prohibited without the express written permission of the City of Shoreline. Use of the City logo is prohibited for any non-governmental purpose. The City of Shoreline marks third party copyrights with high diligence. Any person reproducing or redistributing a third party copyright must adhere to the terms and conditions of the third party copyright holder. If you are a copyright holder and you feel that the City of Shoreline did not use an appropriate credit line please notify the Webmaster with detailed information about the circumstances, so that the copyright information can be added or the material in question can be removed.

Our Commitment to Website Accessibility

We are committed to making information on this website accessible to all users, regardless of ability or access method. Our goal is to conform to the World Wide Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative’s (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA. We will evaluate this site on a regular basis and continue to work to increase accessibility and usability.

Accessibility Challenges

  • We are committed to assessing, prioritizing, and updating web content that is non-ADA compliant. As a result, we are in varying stages of progress toward our accessibility goal.
  • Some of our content is in PDF format only. We are working on a process to ensure all PDFs are accessible.
  • Due to current technology constraints, there are some instances where we are unable to provide information in an accessible format (e.g. some mapping information). We will continue to monitor these sections and develop accessible solutions as technology improves.

City of Shoreline Social Media Policy

A. Privacy Policy and Disclaimer

Any individual accessing, browsing and using a City of Shoreline Social Media site accepts without limitation or qualification, the City's Social Media Policies (hereafter "Policies"). These terms and conditions apply only to the Social Media sites (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and YouTube) that are managed by the City of Shoreline. The City of Shoreline maintains the right to modify these Policies without notice. Any modification is effective immediately upon posting the modification on the Social Media Policy page unless otherwise stated. Continued use of a City of Shoreline Social Media site following the posting of any modification signifies acceptance of such modification.

All users of a City of Shoreline Social Media site are also subject to the site’s own Privacy Policy. The City of Shoreline has no control over a site’s privacy policy or their modifications to it. The City of Shoreline also has no control over content, commercial advertisements, or other postings produced by the Social Media site that appear on the City of Shoreline Social Media site as part of the site’s environment.

The City of Shoreline operates and maintains its Social Media sites as a public service to provide information about City programs, services, projects, issues, events and activities.  B. Facebook and MySpace Posts Policy

Although we encourage posts and comments on the Facebook and MySpace Pages managed by the City of Shoreline, the Shoreline Facebook and MySpace Pages are limited public forums and are moderated by City staff. All posted content (comments, photos, links, etc.) must be related to the topic at hand. The following types of posts and comments are prohibited: 

  • not topically related to the particular article being commented upon; 
  • promoting or advertising commercial services, entities or products; 
  • supporting or opposing political candidates or ballot propositions; 
  • obscene content; 
  • illegal activity or encouragement of illegal activity; 
  • promoting, fostering or perpetuating discrimination on the basis of creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation; 
  • information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; 
  • content that violates a legal ownership interest of any other party; or 
  • anonymous posts.

The City of Shoreline reserves the right to remove posted content that does not comply with these Policies. All posts and comments uploaded to the City of Shoreline Facebook and MySpace pages will be periodically reviewed. All posts and comments are public records subject to public disclosure under the Public Records Act.

C. Links Policy

1. Links to other Social Media Sites and External Websites Provided on City of Shoreline Social Media Sites

The City of Shoreline may select links to other Social Media sites and outside websites that offer helpful resources for users.
