The City is offering a limited-term compost incentive program to help residents start composting food scraps! Through this program, apartment properties in Shoreline may receive FREE compost service!

Eligible properties that apply and are approved will receive:

• FREE weekly compost service for up to one year (up to one 96-gallon compost cart per 100 residential units)
• FREE kitchen compost kits for tenants
• FREE help to set up a successful compost system
• FREE training and education for staff and residents on composting do's and dont's

Gardens Condominium is a 26-unit property in the Meridian Park neighborhood.

We first partnered with the Gardens Condominium to provide all residents with a free kitchen compost kit and recycle totes. Shortly after, this condo community reached back out to see what else they could do to recycle more! We decided to bring our plastic bag recycling program to bring greater access and convenience to specialty recycling.

Residents here recycle ~10 lbs. of plastic bags each month. And this is in addition to their well-established compost and recycle programs – way to go, Gardens Condominium!

The Blakely at Echo Lake is a 200-unit for seniors 55+ near Echo Lake.

We partnered with Recology to bring free food and yard waste service to The Blakely’s residents through the City’s multifamily compost incentive program. We kicked off the program by hosting a special “Where Does It Go?” event to help residents know what items go in their garbage, recycle, and food and yard waste carts. We provided free compost kits, recycle totes, compost and recycle guides, and hung informational posters throughout the property to help tenants know where to find their waste containers and what can go in each. This environmentally-oriented property also participates in our battery and plastic bag recycling programs.

Residents recycle ~20 lbs. of plastic bags and ~455 lbs. of food scraps each month. In 2023, residents also safely recycled ~120 lbs. of household batteries.

This is a 26-unit condo community in the North City neighborhood.

Residents reached out to us to sign up their condo community for the City’s program that provides eligible multifamily properties with up to one year of free food and yard waste service. In partnership with Recology Zero Waste staff, we provided door-to-door resident education and distributed free kitchen compost kits, recycling totes, and multilingual sorting guides to all units. We also installed a large poster right next to the green food and yard waste cart to make it easier for residents to know what can and cannot go in the cart. 

Residents recycle about 685 lbs. of food scraps and food-soiled paper products each month.
