Overview

Construction of the New Sidewalk Project on 1st Avenue NE between N 193rd Street and NE 195th Street is complete. The 1st Avenue NE sidewalk is the first of the twelve voter-approved sidewalks to be completed. This new sidewalk filled a critical gap in the City's sidewalk network providing a connection to existing trails on NE 195th Street.

The 1st Avenue Sidewalk design includes:

  • Shared-use pedestrian and bicycle facilities with curbs and gutters
  • Curb ramps for ADA accessibility
  • Drainage improvements, including permeable concrete to promote infiltration and reduce impacts of urban runoff

These improvements are part of the 2018 voter-approved effort to build and repair sidewalks throughout Shoreline. Visit the Projects and Initiatives sidewalk webpage for information on current projects.

Project Timeline

  • Design completed in Spring 2021
  • The Project was awarded in July 2021
  • Construction was completed in September 2021

Community Outreach

  • July 2021: The City mailed a Construction Notification Postcard to residents near the 1st Avenue NE sidewalk project site.
  • March 2021: The City mailed residents Virtual Meeting (Webinar) Invitation letters inviting the public to attend an Online Webinar on March 23, 2021.
    • The webinar presentation included details about the sidewalk location, schedule, and construction impacts, and provided residents an opportunity to learn more about the project and ask questions.
  • October 2020: A presentation was given at the Echo Lake Neighborhood meeting to present the preferred design that best meets the City’s goals and standard.
  • May 2020: The City mailed a Project Introduction Letter to residents near the 1st Avenue NE sidewalk project site.
