Phase: Closeout
The work for this project has been combined with the Pump Station 26 Improvements project to create a single plan set and construction contract.
Please refer to the Pump Station 26 & Citywide Stormwater Safety/SCADA Improvements project page for future updates.
This project will implement various minor improvements to six surface water pump stations throughout the City. Common improvements at all stations include adding communications systems, upgrading signage, and adding various safety improvements. Additional detail for each pump station and needed improvements are shown below.
Schedule
This project was deemed substantially complete in June 2023.
Right now, we are working on:
- Warranty checks and minor corrections. See construction website for notable correction work.
Individual Pump Station Descriptions
Linden Pump Station
Linden Pump Station is located on the south shoulder of N 148th Street west of Linden Avenue N is part of the Boeing Creek Drainage Basin. It was constructed in 2008 to prevent local flooding to nearby residences and pumps runoff to the gravity pipe system along the Interurban Trail.
Specific improvements to this pump station include:
- Improve inlet catch basins
- Rehabilitate the existing infiltration inlet pipe
- Relocate the existing electrical panel
- Add a high-level float and alarm
Palatine Pump Station
Palatine Pump Station is located in an easement on a private road south of Palatine Avenue N and north of N 155th Street. The pump was installed into the existing infiltration system in 2009 when the system was not infiltrating as designed. This pump station is located in the Boeing Creek Drainage Basin and pumps runoff north to gravity pipes in Palatine Avenue N.
Specific improvements to this pump station include:
- Add a high-level float and alarm
- Install a new pump
- Relocate existing electrical panel
Ronald Bog Pump Station
The Ronald Bog Pump Station was initially implemented 2009 as a temporary solution to prevent local flooding. It is located on Corliss Place N just south of N 171st Street, within the Thornton Creek Drainage Basin. Some minor improvements are needed until a permanent solution can be implemented.
Specific improvements to this pump station include:
- Install a high-level float and alarm
- Install a hardware electrical service
Pan Terra Pump Station
The Pan Terra Pump Station is the largest pump station in the City of Shoreline. This station is located just to the southwest of the N Richmond Beach Road and Dayton Avenue N intersection, with access off of N 185th Street. It was installed in 2010 and includes a nearly 2 acre detention and infiltration basin. Runoff from smaller storms discharge via gravity pipe under Dayton Avenue N to Dayton Place N, while higher flows are pumped west along N 185th Street. It is located in the Boeing Creek Drainage Basin.
Specific improvements to this pump station include:
- Improve the existing steep access road
- Protect the generator and electrical equipment with portable concrete barriers
- Improve the access vault hatch for safety
- Install various minor improvements to facilitate maintenance
Serpentine Pump Station
The Serpentine Pump Station is located on the shoulder of 5th Avenue NE, near the NE 178th Street intersection. This pump station is upstream just a few blocks from Pump Station 25 and is meant to supplement that system by pumping into the gravity pipe system of NE Serpentine Place. It is also located in the Thornton Creek Drainage Basin.
Specific improvements to this pump station include:
- Install a low-level curb to divert surface water from vaults
- Install minor maintenance improvements such as davit bases and portable pump and generator connections
- Install safety grating over the vault openings
Pump Station 25
Pump Station 25 is located off 2nd Place NE, within the Thornton Creek Drainage Basin and pumps runoff south to gravity pipe in NE Serpentine Place. This pump station was last improved in 2013 and requires limited improvements.
Specific improvements to this pump station include:
- Install safety railings on top the pump vault
- Provide erosion control on the steep slopes of the pond
- Install safety grating in the wetwell
- Install minor maintenance improvements such as adding davit bases, and portable pump and generator connections.
Overview History
The Miscellaneous Pump Station Improvements aims to install minor improvements to communication, safety, and emergency response to six of the eight surface water pump stations operated by the City. Multiple studies have outlined needed improvements for all six pump stations.
A Stormwater Pump Station Condition and Capacity Assessment was completed in 2016. This report evaluated the City’s eight existing stormwater pump stations, identified various deficiencies, and recommended general improvements for each station. It recommended adding Supervisory Controls and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology to all pump stations and various improvements to each individual pump station. It identified Pump Stations 26 and 30 as needing major reconstruction, while the other six pump stations needed minor improvements.
In early 2019, the City put out a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to hire a design consultant to design consistent pump station improvements across all eight of the City’s existing surface water pump stations. After review of multiple firm proposals, BHC Consultants, LLC was selected. In mid-2019, BHC began the first phase of their scope, which was to assemble a Stormwater Pump Station and SCADA Improvements Preliminary Design Report. This report verified and expanded on the findings of the 2016 Conditions Assessment, provided telemetry design recommendations (SCADA) for all stations and more detailed specific improvements to each pump station. The relevant recommendations to this project are listed in the sections above.
