The pedestrian rail was installed in July. The Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon was installed in October and we are currently waiting for Seattle City Light to connect it to a power source. After this is completed, we will work on any punch list items and then close the project out. The project is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2024.

Project Overview and History

The City will be receiving a total of $2 million in Sound Transit Access Funds to spend on pedestrian improvements in the vicinity of the future Sound Transit Shoreline South/148th Station (light rail to open in 2024). Pedestrian improvements on 1st Avenue NE were identified as the top priority for these Access Funds.

1st Avenue NE will be a key access point to the light rail station connecting to/from the 145th Street corridor, the future 148th Street Non-Motorized Bridge (a pedestrian/bicycle bridge that will span I-5 at approximately 148th Street with direct access to the light rail station), and a bicycle network.

Shoreline Council approved higher density zoning in the station area in September 2016. As a result, redevelopment is underway with more anticipated in the near future. These new developments will be adding sidewalk improvements on their properties as part of their permitting conditions.

The City of Shoreline will then utilize the $2 million in Sound Transit funding to help fill in gaps to provide pedestrian improvements along 1st Avenue NE. The project assumes design and construction of concrete sidewalk, on a minimum of one-side of the street between N 145th Street and N 155th Street.
