Project Overview and History
This project rehabilitates aging sewer pipeline along 1st Avenue NE between NE 145th Street and NE 147th Street and updates the sewer connections for new and existing customers.
The project will include:
- Replacing existing 8-inch concrete sanitary sewer pipe with HDPE and PVC sanitary sewer pipe via pipe bursting and cut and cover methods
- Installation of 4 associated manholes
- Surface restoration including, asphalt, concrete, curb and gutter, and vegetated surfaces
- Pavement marking replacement
Construction Coming Soon!
Construction is anticipated to begin in November 2024.
During construction, residents near the project should expect:
- Construction between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
- Pedestrian detours and traffic delay during peak traffic hours.
- Construction to be complete within approximately four months.
- Driveway access will be maintained.
This area may be impacted by detouring traffic related to the 145th Street Projects.
A Construction Coming Soon postcard was mailed on October 18, 2024 to residents within 500 feet of the project limits.

Background
Following the City’s acquisition of the Ronald Wastewater District, staff have been working to update and refine the City’s wastewater system model for determination of system deficiencies and the status of aging infrastructure as it approaches the end of its service life. One of the identified locations for aging infrastructure replacement is on 1st Avenue NE between N/NE 145th Street and N/NE 147th Street.
Due to the City’s ongoing 145th Street Corridor Project, the area near the 1st Avenue NE project site is closed for construction. This project will take advantage of the road and intersection closure that is already in place for construction of the 145th Street Corridor Project.
