As the City grows, acquiring more parkland is essential to meet the needs of our increasing population. Over the past several years, the City Council has authorized purchasing property adjacent to existing parks or in areas where neighborhood parks would make sense as properties come onto the market. To date, the City has purchased property bordering Twin Ponds, Brugger’s Bog, Ronald Bog, and Rotary Parks, among other purchases. All these purchases have been from willing sellers.

Communication Regarding Acquisitions

Once the City has an executed purchase and sale agreement on a specific property, residents within the neighborhood will be notified that a public meeting will be held prior to the City Council meeting. If timing does not allow for a meeting in advance, the City will notify homeowners and hold the meeting afterwards.

Opportunity for Park Stewards

This program would be supported by the City’s Green Shoreline Partnership and would provide equipment and supplies to volunteers to help supplement the contracted maintenance services. The City is successfully using this approach in other City parks and undeveloped open spaces.

Addressing Camping on Park Property

The City has defined a compassionate and proactive response to camping on public property. If you notice any camping in any park or on any public property in Shoreline, you can contact the Customer Response Team at 206-801-2700. The City has contracted with Lake City Partners to work with individuals who are unhoused to try and connect them with services.
