WOMBTOMB, a free public dance performance - Artist Audrey Rachelle

About the Event:

WOMBTOMB is a site-responsive dance performance with live music by local musicians.

Great transitions occur within the confined spaces of wombs and tombs. The original function of the Richmond Beach Saltwater Park cottage was as the residence for the park caretaker and since has served the community in several different ways including housing the Shoreline Art Cottage Artist Residency, camps, meetings and events. The site continues to support the community in new and emerging ways. What will grow and create offspring at the site and what might no longer meet the needs of the community and be left as memories at the site? What new seeds will be sown here and which garden beds will become dormant?

Using live music and dance, two forms of constant movement, WOMBTOMB joins this land in its current state of transition in hopes that this embodiment will lead to hearing what it is calling out for.

From the Artist:

This land was named Kekektwsidat, or place of gathering, kinnikinic in Lushootseed (Salish). I wish to honor the Indigenous people of the Salish Sea and the dxwdəwʔabš and Tulalip people, past, present, and future, by holding true to the intention they gave to this site. I am grateful for the opportunity to experience community and art in your homeland.
