Each year, the City of Shoreline offers a limited number of rebates to help property owners recreate their yards into environmentally friendly and low-maintenance rain gardens or native vegetation landscapes. These gardens protect local waters, support native birds and pollinators, and can help resolve drainage issues on private property. If you’d like to give your yard a more “Pacific Northwest” feel, a rain garden or native vegetation landscaping may be perfect for you!
Are you interested in designing and installing a rain garden or native vegetation landscape bed? This workshop will give you the opportunity to talk and ask questions about the garden you want to build on your property with the Snohomish Conservation District team! This support includes:
- siting and sizing rain gardens and native vegetation landscape
- tools and techniques for constructing the gardens
- understanding soil & sun conditions and choosing plants
- choosing soil and mulch products for the garden
This class is best suited for those that
- have a basic understanding of rain gardens and native vegetation landscaping (if you missed it, email Christie Lovelace for a link to our intro workshop: clovelace@shorelinewa.gov)
- are ready to start drafting a design for a rain garden or native vegetation landscape on their property OR
- have a draft design for their rain garden or native vegetation landscape and want site-specific feedback
- Note: If you are interested in the City of Shoreline Soak It Up Rebate, it is best to schedule a site visit with Christie Lovelace to determine if your property is eligible. Email me at clovelace@shorelinewa.gov
If you have taken any steps to start planning your rain garden or native vegetation landscape (e.g., determined your roof contributing area, completed the rain garden calculator, have a draft site plan), I will request those documents when please send those documents to me! Both the Snohomish Conservation District team and I will review this information ahead of the workshop. If you do not have this information, never fear, we can get started just by looking at an aerial photo of your property.
Space is limited to 30 participants. Register here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/city-of-shoreline-soak-it-up-advanced-technical-assistance-workshop-tickets-140830147763
