Special initiatives are those projects that involve many different City departments and will have impacts across the City.
Capital Improvement Projects
Capital improvement projects include major construction projects and land acquisitions that improve the cultural environment, capital infrastructure and recreational opportunities for the citizens of Shoreline. The Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) provides a multi-year list of proposed major capital expenditures and associated operating costs to the City. The CIP attempts to set funding strategies not only for the current year, but also to project future needs. Capital expenditures are viewed not only in the context of how much the new project will cost, but also what impact the project will have on the City’s operating budget. All of the projects below are part of the City’s CIP.

Plans and Planning Projects
Below are long-range planning projects of the City’s Planning and Development Services Department. These projects and plans may take several years to fully implement, sometimes as many as 20 or 25 years. Long-range projects are often initiated by the City Council and include check-ins with the Council and Planning Commission as well as discussions with the public.

Major Utility Construction Projects
Have you ever seen someone digging up the street and wondered what they were doing or who was doing it? While some may be City projects, more often than not it is the work of one of the many utilities that service Shoreline.
