The City of Shoreline has undertaken many Economic Development Initiatives to help develop a positive business climate and grow the businesses community in Shoreline. Some of these initiatives include:
Programs and Services
The City has expanded the positive role that it can play in local economic development, including:
- Establishing a Small Business Assistance Program to provide business counseling and business education, including workshops on business-related topics,
- Creating an Economic Development Advisory Committee to provide guidance and direction for Shoreline's future economic prosperity and growth,
- Identifying opportunities for commercial development and re-development,
- Providing Business Resource Information to the local business community,
- Supporting the business communities along the Aurora Avenue Commercial District and in the North City Business District,
- Fostering partnerships between the local business community, development community, and commercial property owners,
- Incentivizing residential development in Shoreline, which provides a greater consumer base for existing businesses and tax base for municipal services, and
- Working to create a positive business climate that is attractive to existing businesses and external firms and developers looking to locate and develop here.
Public Investment
Capital investment in public infrastructure is the most important way that the City can partner with local property owners, developers and businesses. The Aurora Corridor Project (145th to 205th Streets) is one major example of how the City is investing tens of millions of dollars in upgrading and improving local infrastructure. The North City Business District Project and the Interurban Bike and Pedestrian Trail are other examples. These efforts are attracting attention around the region and from investors looking to invest in Shoreline. Visit the project pages below for more project and business information:
Economic Development Strategic Plan
Shoreline is the North King County€™s commercial hub, featuring a thriving small business and entrepreneurial community. To continue to build this commercial hub, the City must strategically plan for additional infrastructure, more efficient use of both public and privately-owned properties, and other economic development initiatives. To implement this planning, in 2006, a broad-based task force of citizens and business leaders completed a six-year economic development strategic plan. Sister City Program
The City of Shoreline maintains a sister city relationship with the City of Boryeong, Korea. Sister City relationships are important for trade and the growth of Shoreline as a city with many national and international connections. Click here to visit the
